Lemon Law · Other makes

Your make isn't listed? California lemon law still applies.

The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act covers new and certified pre-owned vehicles from any manufacturer that sells under a warranty in California, not only the makes with their own page on this site.

The rules

What matters is the warranty, not the badge

California law presumes the manufacturer has had a fair chance to fix your vehicle if any of these happen. The problem has to first be reported for warranty repair within 18 months of delivery or 18,000 miles, whichever comes first. These are general rules, not a prediction about any one vehicle. Our FAQ has the legal details.

A

Two or more attempts (safety)

For a defect that could cause death or serious injury, reported within 18 months or 18,000 miles.

B

Four or more attempts

For the same non-safety warranty problem, reported within 18 months or 18,000 miles.

C

30 days out of service

Cumulative, for warranty repair, within 18 months or 18,000 miles.

Keep every repair order, including the ones marked "could not duplicate". They are your evidence whichever manufacturer built the vehicle.
